A few days ago I opened my particular used copy of Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man to verify that what I had for so long considered a mysterious inscription was, in fact, hand written inside the back cover in black ink. To my surprise, there was nothing hand written inside the back cover of my particular used copy of Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. Maybe it was inside the front cover? No, not there either.
I found it hand written in blue ink under the epigraph. The mysterious inscription was no mysterious inscription at all, but rather just a translation for a previous reader.
I picked up my pen, opened the back cover of my particular used copy of Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man and wrote in black ink.
